First of all Linux is pronounced as Lee-Nux and not as lie-nux… though i prefer the latter one coz most ppl think i m talking about lee-jeans if i use the first one!!
I tested this one with Ubuntu 6.10 and OpenSuse10.2.
First of all u need to have ur router connected to ur PC through Ethernet Port and not with the USB port. If u don’t have an Ethernet card, buy one… realtek’s cost about 180 bux.
Then configure your card if necessary by going into Yast–> Network Devices in Suse (i didnt need to) and in ubuntu… i didnt need to.
Open http://192.168.1.1 in ur browser, and fill in the details that ur technician told to fill… save and reboot.
Then type these commands one by one in OpenSuse’s terminal:
su -
(”enter your root password”)
kate /etc/resolv.conf
after the file opens, append Primary and Secondary DNS as:
nameserver 59.179.243.70
nameserver 202.159.217.198
save the file and close it.
For Ubuntu 6.10, to know how to login as ROOT in Ubuntu, click here. After logging in as root, Open Computer —> FileSystem —> Resolv.conf and append the same lines as stated above… save and close.
U can also use terminal to do so, use the following command:
sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf
The terminal method didn’t work for me in Ubuntu, thats y i gave two methods here..
Open your browser and check if its working, happy Browsing!!
These should be most prolly same but they could be different, check them by logging in http://192.168.1.1 then going into DNS.

While you are at it (adding nameservers), just try OpenDNS www.opendns.com. Lovely with DHCP on, never fails you!

Please don’t give out how to log in as root on Ubuntu. People start using linux as root user then. Let them figure it out themselves. If they figure it out how to log in then in the process they’ll figure out the pitfalls of logging in as root.
Learn to use sudo in Ubuntu, it’s quite easy just need to get used to it. Ubuntu has pretty nice(or should I say badly) configured sudo, use it.
BTW, it nice that you didn’t face too much trouble getting internet running.
Better than OpenDNS, run your own DNS server. It just adds a small overhead on performance. Negligible on today’s PC’s. You just need to install bind9 and add 127.0.0.1 to /etc/resolv.conf. It’s a better suggestion that Harsh’s

hey Shwetz good information… I have a question for you.. I have got the night unlimited plan from MTNL, and in Windows XP, I have configured it in such a way that it reboots just before and just after 12 AM and 8 AM respectively. I would like to do the same in Ubuntu 7.04. In Windows I use an application called Automize. It has a feature to schedule Telnet tasks. But I believe we have to write a script in Linux to achieve that. Do you know a software or a way to schedule this script in Linux. Or any other alternative for the same.
Thank you.
