Today i saw that i have had more than 102,000 SPAM Comments
on my blog ( 102,120 to be precise). Well since i m on a free hosting site, Frihost, it was bound to happen coz free hosting sites are much more prone to SPAM.
I was first using only Akismet, then i started using Akismet + Image Captcha plugin and now i m using Akismet + Did You Pass Math? plugins. These do not prevent spam to a great extent, but yes they still do their job quite well holding back some of the spam.
Looking forward to cross 150,000 SPAM Comments.
[UPDATE] I have placed the Akismet Spam Counter in the sidebar, thnx to Daniel15 for telling me about it, though i was already using Akismet ver 1.2.1, i nvr knew about it

High amt of SPAM is the biggest drawback of being on free host!!

No, it’s not the fact that you’re on a free host… I’m using FriHost as well (I have been since July 2005). Since you’re using your own domain, people can’t tell that you’re using a free host. It’s hosts which use subdirectories ([host].com/yoursite) which get spammed the most…
My blog was started in December 2005, and has so far received “only” 422 spam comments. My blog is at http://www.daniel15.com/blog/ (alhough, knowing spam bots, they’ll find the link to my site via this site, and come spam me :P)
My suggestion would be to upgrade to Akismet 1.2.1 or higher. Then, it gives you a nice counter you can put on your site (see the ‘422 spam comments’ counter on my site). It’s fun to show off how much spam you get, especially when it’s in large quantities like yours
Ok, the ‘Did you pass math’ plugin seems to have a bug. It asked me to add 10 and 0. I put 10 in, and it said ‘Sorry, it looks like you didn’t pass math’
