On Saturday i ran O&O Defragmentation utility coz PerfectDisk (PD) on running was showing BSOD and after installing PD my default Windows defrag utility was g0ne. I started it at night and then i slept. In the morning, defragmenting was done, so i switched off the comp. Then after sometime i started the comp and saw updates were available. So i downloaded the updates and installed them after which it prompted me to restart the comp, so i did. But after POST screen it refused to boot showing a file missing.
I booted with Linspire, downloaded the mising file and thought of replacing it. But i was unable to access my %SystemRoot% folder. It showed as an executable file of size 512KB. Then i tried to boot with a bootable disc which i made using Nero on my frnds PC. But still i wasnt able to access it. Then i took my OS Hard Disk to my cousin’s house to see if it will work out there. But it didnt. But i was able to take back-up of my sis’s docs but not mine since mine is a private account. Then i again came back home, booted with Linspire and then burned my data on a CD. But it burned data with all file names different. It made all filenames uppercase and replaced SPACE with an “_” .
The i formatted the computer which i didnt wanted to do at any cost. But i did, installed SP2, updates, softwares, etc etc etc. Also i changed my AV from NAV 2006 to KAV due to *ahem*. Well all’s well now. The whole formatting, updating blah blah blah took approximately a whopping 7 hrs.
In a way it was good coz my previous problems were solved. Like i wasnt able to associate my .torrent files with any Bit-Torrent Client, my web browsers were behaving strangely, most clicks were taken as double clicks.

Why don’t you try Avast. It is a great antivirus. Also there is an advantage of formatting. The computer becomes fast.

well i used Avast once and i liked it too, but then NAV 2006 was released, i started using coz it was light on resources, also while using avast after the infected file was executed, only then it detected it. After formatting NAV didnt activate so i switched over to KAV

What is a “OS Hard disk”?
Shwetz,
Write I as “I” and not “i”; It looks professional.
